Missions principales

L’Analyste de recherche appuiera la conception et la mise en œuvre de projets de recherche socio-économique en Tanzanie et en Ouganda, avec une base à Dar es Salaam. Il/elle contribuera à la coordination des activités de collecte de données, au suivi-évaluation et à l’assurance qualité des enquêtes. Ses tâches incluront la préparation des dossiers d’approbation éthique, l’élaboration d’outils de collecte, le codage de questionnaires sur SurveyCTO ou d’autres plateformes ODK, ainsi que l’appui à la formation des enquêteurs. Il/elle participera aux visites terrain pour améliorer les processus, nettoiera et validera les données entrantes, réalisera des analyses quantitatives et qualitatives, et rédigera des sections de rapports et présentations pour les clients. Une contribution optionnelle au développement commercial, notamment aux propositions techniques et financières, est possible.

Profil recherche

Le poste requiert un Master en économie, santé publique, développement ou domaine connexe, avec au moins un an d’expérience professionnelle pertinente, y compris stages, mémoire ou recherche académique. Le/la candidat(e) doit maîtriser l’analyse quantitative, idéalement Stata, et posséder d’excellentes capacités rédactionnelles et orales en anglais et en kiswahili. Une expérience avec les plateformes ODK, notamment SurveyCTO, et une expérience préalable en Tanzanie sont des atouts. Le rôle exige autonomie, sens de l’organisation, compétences interpersonnelles et capacité à travailler dans un environnement collaboratif, rapide, avec une forte responsabilisation individuelle et peu de bureaucratie. Il/elle doit être motivé(e) par la recherche appliquée au développement socio-économique et prêt(e) à interagir avec des équipes terrain et des partenaires variés.

Conditions proposees

Laterite propose une rémunération mensuelle brute compétitive de 7 311 684 à 9 704 383 TZS, selon l’expérience et les entretiens, ainsi qu’une assurance médicale, une cotisation de retraite et 21 jours de congés annuels. Un budget annuel de formation allant jusqu’à 1 000 USD et 10 jours de congé pour le développement professionnel sont prévus. Des options de télétravail sont disponibles conformément à la politique interne. Le poste est basé au bureau de Dar es Salaam et ouvert exclusivement aux ressortissants tanzaniens. Le contrat soutiendra l’équipe Tanzanie et, à distance, l’équipe Ouganda, sur des projets couvrant notamment l’éducation, la santé publique, l’agriculture et l’énergie. Laterite is looking for a new Research Analyst with an understanding of data analysis and a strong motivation to work in social and economic research to join our office in Dar es Salaam. This role combines research design, data analysis, project management support, and fieldwork coordination in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

This position is open exclusively to Tanzanian nationals.

THE ENVIRONMENT YOU’RE STEPPING INTO

You will join our Tanzania team in a high-trust environment. We are low on bureaucracy but high on individual accountability. You won’t be micromanaged here—we want you to use your judgment to solve problems, support our fast-paced field teams, and actively improve the systems you work with.

Laterite was founded in 2010 in Kigali, and our office in Dar es Salaam opened in 2021. Our project portfolio in Tanzania is varied and ranges from data collection (including mixed-methods studies) to full-cycle research projects. The Tanzania team works across all our key sectors with the majority of projects in education, public health and agriculture topics. Our team in Tanzania currently consists of 5 team members.

While based in our Dar es Salaam office, you will support Laterite’s Uganda team, contributing to projects in both countries. The Uganda portfolio is just as varied, combining data collection with full-cycle research studies, and spans the agriculture, public health, education and energy sectors. You will collaborate with the Uganda team remotely.

HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT

1 Supporting research projects

  • Support the ethical approval process, research design, and development of research instruments.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
  • Draft sections of reports and presentations for clients.
  • Support communication with clients and internal project teams on project progress.

2 Contributing to data collection

  • Code survey instruments using SurveyCTO and other ODK-based platforms.
  • Collaborate with field teams to develop training materials and support enumerator trainings.
  • Participate in field visits to understand and improve data collection processes.

3 Strengthening data quality and analysis

  • Monitor, clean, and validate incoming survey data.
  • Work closely with field teams to resolve data quality issues.
  • Support statistical analysis and interpretation of findings.
  • Contribute to consultancy-quality reports and data-driven insights.

4 Contributing to business development (Optional)

If you are interested, there is also room to contribute to our business development efforts, either through proactive business development or by contributing to the development of technical and financial proposals.

WHAT YOU BRING

We are looking for a colleague with strong quantitative data analysis skills and a motivation to work on socio-economic development research. Specifically, you have:

  • A completed Master’s degree in Economics, Public Health, Development or related fields.
  • At least one year of professional experience in similar roles or tasks. (We welcome experience gained through internships, dissertation work, or participation in an academic research group, provided you can demonstrate how this experience meets the requirements of the role.)
  • Strong quantitative data analysis skills and proficiency in Stata.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Kiswahili.

In addition, we welcome:

  • Experience working with ODK-based platforms (e.g., SurveyCTO).
    • Previous work experience in Tanzania.
    • Organizational and interpersonal skills, self-motivation and drive to work in a collaborative environment.
